The refillable packaging revolution is in full force across the beauty industry. As the topic of sustainability continues to evolve in the sector, brands and consumers have been seeking out environmentally friendly ways to produce and enjoy their favorite beauty items. According to a study conducted by NielsenIQ, beauty experienced a 64% increase in searches for refillable packaging options in 2023, impacting sectors including color cosmetics, personal care, and skincare. Just two years ago, the refillable packaging market was worth $41.5 billion, with this figure expected to grow at a CAGR rate of 4.1%, predicted to stand at $61.72 billion by 2032.Packaging and material powerhouses Albéa Cosmetics, Verescence, and Sulapac have spearheaded the movement toward environmental stewardship through their individual solutions for several years. Recently, the trio realized that collaboration would be more effective than competition when working toward the most sustainably beneficial packaging, and joined forces to produce the Twirl, a 50ml refillable glass jar.Twirl was crafted from Verescence's 120 years of experience in glass making, Albéa Cosmetics' technical expertise, and Sulapac's extensive knowledge of material innovation. The jar has a Verescence glass base, which incorporates 20% PCR glass, and a lid made of biobased and recyclable Sulapac material. The material has a low carbon footprint and is said to leave no permanent microplastics or toxic substances behind at any stage of the product life cycle.
