Taraji P. Henson Buys Maesa-Incubated TPH by Taraji

Founder Taraji P. Henson acquired the TPH by Taraji brand from beauty incubator Maesa.WHO: Taraji P. Henson partnered with Maesa to create TPH by Taraji. In 2020 the brand launched in 1,800+ Target doors with a haircare range that focused on scalp health. The brand has since expanded its range into bodycare and home fragrances.Maesa was founded in 1997 in Paris, expanding to the US in 2007 and becoming a leading global provider of beauty brand incubation and strategic outsourcing across beauty categories through a vertically integrated operation. Bain Capital took a majority stake in the business in 2019. The business has incubated a stable of brands that include Flower Beauty, Kristin Ess, Fine’ry, Hey Humans, Frenshe, Hairitage, TPH, and others. Today, Maesa has offices in Los Angeles, London, Vienna, Dubai, Dongguan (China), and Hong Kong.IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “Over the past few months I have been in discussions with my partners at Maesa regarding the future of the TPH by Taraji brand, and am pleased to say we have reached a mutually beneficial agreement that has afforded me the opportunity to buy back TPH,” Henson told WWD via email. “From Day One, our shared vision was to create a brand that celebrates hair and scalp with high-performance products rooted in self care, efficacy and inclusivity.”“TPH by Taraji has started with the idea of celebrating and redefining scalp and haircare and has grown into an incredible brand with a strong identity and loyal consumer following,” said Scott Kestenbaum, Maesa’s Chief Growth Officer, in an email.
